The Friends of Paxton Pits Nature Reserve organises activities and events to help raise awareness of the Reserve. These include monthly guided walks, talks on a wide range of wildlife topics and surveys of the reserve. Events are free and open to all unless otherwise stated.

Please phone if you have any special needs, in particular, regarding the use of wheelchairs and pushchairs. (Visitors’ Centre: 01480 406795)

Visitors are advised to wear suitable clothing for outdoor events with strong boots or shoes, and hats in the summer sun.

    The Wildlife Survey Group will be surveying the East Scrub this morning, looking for the wide variety of plants and insects that live there.

    Explore Paxton Pits Nature Reserve with experienced local experts. The route taken will depend on the time of year and conditions underfoot, but will be designed to show you the best of what the Reserve has to offer. This is an informal, family-friendly walk.

    The Waterlife Recovery Project - a talk by Dr Vince Lea

    The project has already achieved great success in helping water vole numbers recover in Eastern England by eradicating the invasive American mink.

    This talk is £3 to attend with proceeds going towards the Friends of Paxton Pits.

    Doors will open at 6:30 pm.

    Refreshments will be available to purchase in the Visitor Centre.

    Butterfly and Dragonfly transect surveys

    Join us on our butterfly and dragonfly survey today. If the weather is favourable there should be plenty of spring butterflies around, including our latest species the grizzled skipper. Four-spotted chaser and scarce chaser dragonflies should be at their peak, along with numerous damselflies

    The surveys will start from the visitor centre at 11.00 and 1.30.
