  • Dragonfly Day

    Dragonfly Day

    25 June, 2022

In 2020, Paxton Pits was designated a Dragonfly Hotspot by the British Dragonfly Society, in recognition of its importance as a dragonfly and damselfly site.  Twenty species of dragonfly and damselfly are seen regularly on the reserve, including nationally scarce species such as the green-eyed hawker, scarce chaser and variable damselfly.

During the spring and summer, we carry out monthly surveys to monitor the population of these fascinating insects. On Saturday the 25th of June, you can join us on one of our surveys, which will start at 11.00 am and 2.00 pm from the visitor centre. We will help you to identify some of the species we see as we walk around the reserve. The British Dragonfly Society will also be there with an information stand and family activities. All are welcome.
